Donald Richardson has spent a lifetime studying, teaching and writing about art and design theory and practice.
For many years he was Supervisor of Studies (Visual Art) in the Education Department of South Australia. Now retired, he continues to exhibit regularly and is currently writing an extended critique of the current state of writing about art, craft and design.
Of his many books and articles on art, art education and art theory the most recently published is What Art Is – and Isn’t. An Aesthetic Tract (2010) and Creating Remembrance. The Art and Design of Australian War Memorials (2024).
He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for services to the arts in 2010.
